As we wrap up 2024, we’re reflecting on our highs and lows and celebrating our biggest win of the year: Opening our third motel and our first year-round property! Nestled in nature, The June Beaver Valley is a cozy 8 room outpost located just outside of Collingwood, Ontario. This is our most intimate property yet, and was designed for you to rest, relax and connect in nature. Just minutes from incredible farm to table restaurants, like Heart’s Tavern, and a short drive to Le Scandinave Spa and Blue Mountain Ski Resort, our latest motel is the perfect launchpad for outdoor adventures and dining experiences around Kimberley, Blue Mountain and Collingwood.
Hearts Tavern is a 1-minute drive from The June Beaver Valley
Designed by Ashley Montgomery Design, every corner provides The June's signature retro femme vibe, infused with a cozy, country ambiance. We think the transformation from dingy roadside motel to a feminine take on a traditional hunting and fishing lodge was pretty incredible! As we grow our business, it’s getting harder and harder to do it all ourselves, and so with this project, we really leaned into collaborating with people who we admire and share our vision. Ashley and her team are absolute pros and a dream to work with!
We hope you enjoy these before and after photos as much as we do. But, for those of you who want more behind the scenes reno content, we filmed 10 webisodes for Instagram that detail the entire motel transformation, from purchase to opening! Click here to watch the first webisode!
EXTERIOR & PATIO
The focus of the exterior refresh was to create a better first impression. We wanted to take the motel from cowboy ranch to a moody English cottage. We painted the exterior a deep forest green, added black railings and walkways and installed brass light fixtures that give a vintage vibe. On the back riverside patio, we focused on adding self serve experiences like bonfires, an outdoor dining table and a sauna with views of the Beaver River.

PARLOUR
When we purchased the motel, this space was super choppy and didn’t have a clear purpose. We took down partition walls to create a larger space with more seating nooks, installed shiplap to create more visual and material depth, built a big feature stone fireplace, added a self-serve game and book library and swapped a full kitchen for a breakfast nook where guests can help themselves to coffee, tea and a light breakfast daily. Our favourite thing about the Parlour is the mix of new and old furniture and art, and the fish mounted on the wall - an ode to our location on Beaver River!

STUDIO
When we designed this space we knew that since the motel only had 8 rooms, it would be accessible for groups of friends and family to rent out the entire motel for their gatherings and milestone events like micro-weddings, birthdays, anniversary, reunions and bachelorette parties. So, with the Studio we created a flexible space that could serve as a yoga and meditation studio, meeting room and private dining room.

GUEST ROOMS
Perhaps our favourite before and after moment. That waterfall mural was really giving us a “nestled in nature” vibe, but it was the first thing to go! When we purchased the motel, these guest rooms were not only tiny but they were filled with chunky oversized furniture. So our focus was on adding both charm and function to these Cozy King rooms.

THANK YOU!
We appreciate the support we received for the redevelopment of The June Motel - Beaver Valley from the Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). We are proud of the role that The June is playing in attracting more tourism to Grey Highlands and the surrounding area, which will help diversify the local economy and contribute to economic growth in southern Ontario.
