INTERMEDIATE INTERIOR DESIGNER

The Interior Designer is responsible for supporting the entire redevelopment and design process of new and existing spaces at The June. The right team member will be able to translate the overall mood and vision of a space into creative, functional, curated and cohesive design solutions. They will contribute to establishing the mood and vision, provide renderings, schematics and other construction related plans, lead the procurement process of all FF&E, and assist with installations and/or construction site visits as necessary. Please note this is an Intermediate level position based in Prince Edward County, with frequent travel required.
 
REPORTING TO 
In this role, you’ll report directly to Courtney Mann, Design & Development Lead of The June, and work closely with April & Sarah, co-founders of The June.
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work directly with the Design & Development Lead and team to develop and implement interior design concepts and plans that align with The June’s vision. Regularly present design concepts and/or specifications/interior system selections in a team setting through all phases of the design and development process for evaluation and selection. 
  • Understand and interpret building codes, requirements of other regulatory agencies and industry associated standards during the planning and schematic phases
  • Prepare and revise 2D/3D drawings, renderings and schematics for both indoor and outdoor spaces, including but not limited to plans for construction, wall finishes, millwork, plumbing, hardware, power and communication, furniture, reflected ceiling/lighting, and key elevations during the planning and schematic phases
  • Lead the procurement process of all FF&E for both indoor and outdoor spaces, including but not limited to procuring samples, sourcing, purchasing, tracking, assembling and installing during the schematic and implementation phases
  • Developing and implementing seasonal styling programs at operating properties
  • Develop and implement visual merchandising plans for the motel gift shops
  • Build strong relationships with FF&E distributors/retailers in the commercial hospitality industry

    PREREQUISITES
    • Certificate/Diploma in Interior Design
    • 3+ years of commercial interior design experience 
    • The ideal candidate has a passion for revitalizing existing spaces with creative, strategic and curated interior design concepts
    • The ideal candidate has a commercial project portfolio that reflects a feminine, bold and maximalist design approach
    • The ideal candidate understands how to be creative and DIY in order to achieve a desired look on a tight budget
    • Must be based within proximity to Prince Edward County to attend weekly in-person meetings, with a willingness to travel between properties and to distributors/retailers in the GTA as needed
    • Must be eligible to work in Canada
     
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • 4+ years experience in hospitality and/or commercial interior design 
    • Proficiency in interior design software (i.e AutoCad, Revit, Sketch Up, Photoshop)
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google and project management tools (Asana)
    • Proficiency in reading, interpreting and following mechanical, electrical and structural permits, building codes and accessibility codes
    • Ability to communicate abstract, visual ideas in both a written and verbal manner
    • Ability to hand and/or digitally sketch and communicate design concepts
    • Interested and up to date on local and global hospitality design trends 
    • Excellent communication skills and receptive to feedback 
    • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
    • Excellent time management skills, and ability to self-monitor progress as per timeline, budgets and other expectations
    • Self-starter with a “do whatever needs to get done” attitude
     
    DETAILS & COMPENSATION
    • 20-40 hours/week on a 6 month contract with opportunity to extend to a full -time permanent position
    • Start date January 10, 2022
    • $25.00-30.00/hour
